  • Corona Virus Update 18th March 2020

    Wed 18 Mar 2020
    Dear Parents,

As you have probably seen from the Prime Minister and Education Secretary this evening that from Friday the 20th of March all schools in the United Kingdom will be closed to most children. There are a few children who may still attend school and this information will be relayed out when the school is informed of the criteria.
My staff have been working on this probable scenario over the last few weeks. We have set up online learning for the children. The teachers will begin to place lessons and work for the children online over the next few days, along with structures for the day etc.  This can be accessed form the School Website Class Pages.

I have also arranged for a free months membership for all parents to an extra online learning platform if the children would like to choose to do more work at home.

Setting this up is really easy to do - go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS and this will give you complete access.

I will also be looking to re-task certain parts of the school to becoming a food bank for the area, so we can deliver to the most needy and vulnerable people in our community who could well be self isolating. Anyone that can assist in that effort please feel free to contact me.

I am sure you will join me in agreeing that these are unprecedented times and this will therefore take unprecedented action from us all. But we are a strong community and working together we can achieve the best outcomes for everyone within our society. I have been your headteacher for the last 18 months and it is already evident to me that working together is a phenomenal strength of our Buxworth community.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to speak to me.

    Best Wishes

  • COVID-19 Parent advice

    Mon 16 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents,

As you are no doubt aware the situation pertaining to Coronavirus is a developing situation; as well as the school conducting a deep clean over the weekend, I thought I would give you the latest advice for educational settings So to give you the headlines of the update from government  with regards to COVID 19 and children being sent home:

The Department of Health now recommends that-

    • staff, young people and children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. Otherwise they should attend education or work as normal
    • if staff, young people or children become unwell on site with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they should be sent home

What to do if someone develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) on site
If anyone becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature in an education setting they should be sent home and advised to follow the staying at home guidance.
If they need clinical advice, they (or their teacher, parent or guardian) should go online to NHS 111 (or call 111 if they don’t have internet access). In an emergency, call 999 if they are seriously ill or injured or their life is at risk. Do not visit the GP, pharmacy, urgent care centre or a hospital.
In most cases, closure of the educational setting will not be needed but this will be a local decision based on various factors such as establishment size and risk of further spread.
If there is an urgent public health action to take, the educational setting will be contacted by the local Public Health England Health Protection Team who will undertake a risk assessment and advise on any actions or precautions that should be taken. PHE will rarely advise a school to close but this may be necessary if there are so many staff being isolated that the school has operational issues. Your local authority will support you to make this assessment. PHE will work with the headteacher, principal or management team, and the Local Authority Public Health team, to advise on the management of children, pupils, students or staff.

I hope this helps to clear up any misconceptions that maybe circulating through social media.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at the school office.

      Best Wishes
