RE at Buxworth Primary School

At Buxworth Primary School we want children to reach their full potential in physical, intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, social and spiritual growth. The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into significant human questions which religion and world views address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise carried responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own. 

The planning will reflect these key aims and will be colour coded as below.

• Know about and understand a range of religions and world views
• Express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and world views
• Gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions and world views

The units that are outlines in the long term plan will cover ‘Believing’, ‘Expressing’ and ‘Living’ elements.

• Believing – Religious beliefs, teachings, sources; questions about meaning, purpose and truth.
• Expressing – Religious and spiritual forms of expression; questions about diversity and identity.
• Living – Religious practices and ways of living; questions about values and commitments.

Curriculum Threads:

• Special times -festivals, celebrations

• Similarities and differences with religions and comparing this to what we know
• Our lives – journeys, how believes learn wright from wrong based on their teachings, how we live our lives.
• Places of worship – holy books, religious artefacts
• Key Christian principles – Harvest, Christmas Easter
• Religions – Christianity, Judaism, Islam (Hinduism, Buddhism)
