Horse Chestnuts Class homework challenge
The children have been learning about what makes them special. One of these things is, of course, their families. As part of the history strand of our topic, please could the children (with your help), create a family tree. It can be as detailed and historical you like and can include whichever family members you want - just showing parents and grandparents is fine, for example. Be as arty and creative as you like.
Please return to school by Friday 19th November 2021. Enjoy!
*This project is not compulsory, but just an opportunity for the children to do some research and for parents/carers to get involved in our work in class.
This week’s spellings
We will not be setting spellings this week as the children are focusing on the first stages of practice for their Christmas performance.
Spellings W/c 20.09.2021 (please practice daily so that the children can do their best when we check the spellings next Monday).

Holiday work
Well done everyone - we made it through to summer! Enjoy yourselves, stay safe and keep working on the reading and the times tables. I have set TTRockstars for the next 6 weeks and also allocated online reading on Bug Club. Feel free to pick and choose which books you read on bug club (I have mostly allocated by book band but a couple of glitches in the system have caused lower-band books to also be allocated to some children so just enjoy whichever books you choose).
See you all in September!
Mr Tupman
Children needing to work from home
If for any reason your child is awaiting a C19 test or is isolating, I will be putting useful links and setting some work on this webpage and on the bug club website ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.co.uk) throughout the day (on days where I have been informed that we have children who may need to learn from home). In the meantime, there are spellings to practice, TTRockstars to log on to, and science complete - the what a plant needs to grow and parts of a plant activities at Plants - KS1 Science - BBC Bitesize as well as the worksheet, below.
And for anyone who would like a bit of an Active Learn tutorial, these links give login instructions and some background information on the Active Learn website reading and phonics.
As part of learning about how plants grow, we have been growing cress. You could the word document to write instructions for what we did.
Strewth! Horse Chestnut class are jumping for joy this week as we have a fantastic experience day this Friday (18th June) - a morning of amazing bush-craft!
So, on Friday, please send children into school in forest-school-type clothing.
The children all have their TTRockstars logins and have times tables set for the next 5 weeks!
Please log on often and have a go!
I hope you had a relaxing and fun-filled Easter break and that you are all looking forward to the Summer Term as much as I am.
Our theme for this term is Explorers - Please take a moment to have a look at the curriculum overview for the term to find out what the children will be learning and to check on PE and Forest School days etc.
TTROCKSTARS!
We have been working hard on our number facts this week (and the children have been doing an amazing job!). The key is to use many different ways to practice the times tables, and TTROCKSTARS is one of the best!
After some reported glitches on the website, I have set (and reset) the weekly practices.
good luck!
Welcome to another week of Home Learning!
Please find everything you will need for this week. Don't feel like everything needs to be completed. Just do what you can when you can!
On our Friday afternoon zoom session we will be having our own Teddy Bear's Picnic. Please join us with all your teddies, cakes and a couple of games to play too!

Hi Guys
Here is the link to the Supermovers activities. It's a great way to get moving, have a bit of a break and also learn something too!
Hello Horse Chestnuts !
Well done for getting through the first day of what is going to be a very strange term. I am really impressed with all of your efforts today so a huge well done to all the children and grown ups who have helped make that happen!
We will have another zoom meeting tomorrow at 9:15 where hopefully I will be able to screen share what is on the website as regards your work for tomorrow. I want to stress that there is a lot of work on the website uploaded daily, this to make sure that everyone is accommodated for, however I don't want anyone to feel that they must complete everything each day. It is more a guide for you as to what you feel you can do do each day. As long as you are doing some reading, writing and maths throughout the week, please don't feel you must cover it all every day as I understand the everyday pressures that are currently upon us!
With regards to the maths - there are lots of challenges to choose from, but you only need to choose ONE challenge per day (you can do more if you wish!).
Same with the phonics and English activities - if doing them both is too much I would advise to just complete the phonics activity each day, or alternate them, but I have provided extra for anyone who feels they may need more work.
It is a very different style of teaching and learning and we are all having to work together and work through any teething problems to make this as beneficial for our children as possible.
So don't stress (as easy as that sounds!) and just do what you can is my message.
I look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.
Mrs Tamkin :)

Welcome to the summer term!
Please find below a weekly planner with a guideline to your child's home learning this week. The resources and work are underneath this ready to download for your child to complete throughout the week.
Wherever possible please hear your child read for 15 mins each day, as well as spellings, handwriting and times tables to keep their brains ticking during this unusual time!
Hope everyone is well and safe and we hope to see you all very soon!
Mrs Tamkin
Home learning week commencing:
Monday 30th March 2020
Please make sure you are reading each day with your child ideally for around 15 mins per day.
You could also do 15 mins of the following each day with your child:
Times tables
Spelling
Handwriting
Below is this week’s ‘weekly planner’ with all resources attached below. This is just a guideline as to how you might set out home learning with your child during the week.
I have also attached some great educational online links where printing may be an issue.
Kind Regards
Mrs Tamkin
Home learning:
Please can you make sure you read with your child each morning and evening where possible. The children have been given extra books to accommodate this.
These are the other activities you could be doing for 15 minutes each day:
Spellings
Times Tables
Handwriting
All attachments for the children's home learning are available to download and print off (where possible) on the Horse Chestnut class page. This can be done any time and in any order.
If you are unable to access the online documents, we will also be issuing each child with a paper home learning booklet so if access to the online resources is not possible the children can complete the booklets they will be given at the end of the week (20th March).
Kind Regards
Mrs Tamkin
The Horse Chestnuts are studying pirates this term ! They are already very excited to partake in lots of pirate learning journeys including making our classroom into a pirate museum for parents to enjoy! All of our curriculum plans are found on the curriculum letter attached.
The pictures show the Horse Chestnut class really getting stuck in to playing at pirates in forest schools in our first week back; building pirate ships and using natural materials in the woods to imagine steering the ship and climbing the rigging!
The children this week have been learning about healthy eating and the importance of vitamins in our diet. With that in mind, we looked into why pirates got scurvy and then created our own delicious lemon and lime cocktails as a solution to avoid scurvy and to practise these tasty refreshments ready for our pirate museum open day where the children will be serving drinks and snacks themselves! We are also going to be writing instructions on how to create this refreshing drink at home.
We have been reading the book ‘Class 3 all at Sea’ whereby the children have acted out the story, making some brilliant freeze frames in groups, as well as having a go at retelling the story involving pirates, children and a big friendly octopus who saves the day. We will also be looking at various authors who have written pirate stories and the children will be choosing their favourite.
The Circus Comes to Town! Our Curriculum over view letter reveals all of the fun and educational activities planned for our Autumn topic of 'The circus'. We can't wait to get stuck in! If you haven't received a 'Circus comes to town' curriculum overview letter please come and ask for a copy.
