In the event of school being closed due to snow please take the opportunity to let your child play out in the snow and experience it. Have fun with them; build snowmen, go sledging and play out. Let them sculpt and mould the snow into things and talk about what it is like. Use the opportunity to engage all of their senses and ask them what it feels, smells, sounds, looks and even tastes like. Expand their vocabulary where possible and intorduce new words to them.
When you come inside enjoy getting warm and cosy and have a hot chocolate. Maybe do some baking and make a tasty treat.
If you want to do some school work with them ask them to draw a picture about what they did and write about it. They can think of their ideas, rehearse them out loud so they remember them then segment each word and write the beginnig, middle and end sounds in the words.
