Confidence

This week the children really gained confidence. They all tried really hard to climb on and along the ropes independently. They were confident enough to discover new areas of the Forest and even discovered an area covered in snowdrops!

After a big adventure some children enjoyed relaxing in the hammock.

 

Other child initiated activities included:

- Playing pirates and throwing 'cannon balls' into the brook.

- Den building

- Pushing each other on the swing

- Role play

Today in Forest School the children were challenged to make a house for the Stick Man. Children worked together to help build a big house for him. Great teamwork!

On the way down to Forest School children noticed some flowers beginning to poke through the soil. This initiated a hunt for signs of Spring. They found bulbs growing and buds on trees and shrubs. The Little Conkers class are looking forward to Spring and getting their hands dirtymin the allotment area!

 

Other child initiated activities included:

- Matching colours to nature

- Building an obstacle course

- Picking berries for a pie for the birds

👦 Independance 👧

This week in Forest School the children practiced being more independent. Children were responsible for collecting wood for the fire and pouring and handing out the hot chocolate and biscuits. 

Children worked collaboratively together to complete all the tasks. Well done Little Conkers!

 

Other child initiated activities included:

- Bug hunting and matching to information cards.

- Bird watching and identification.

- Making a wall using stones and mud as cement.

- Developing their strength and balance on the ropes. Some children are now able to safely pass others on the ropes!

- Natural mark making using stones and charcoal from the fire pit.

🦔 Hibernation

To reinforce learning in class the children took part in making a 'Hedgehog Hotel' We discussed the best way to construct the hotel and the importance of it being safe, warm and dry. 

 

Other child initiated activities included:

- Learning how to climb on the ropes independently.

- Making 'chocolate milk' from clay and water.

- Making bird feeders

- Searching for minibeasts

- Bird watching (children spotted lots of Blue Tits today!)

- Making natural music. Banging different objects and discovering if it makes a high or low sound.

 🖌 Natural Art 🖼

This week the children enjoyed making art in the snow. They used colourful water to decorate the decking area. 

 

The children were also introduced to Forest School fire safety, they learnt how to approach and sit around the fire circle safely. All of the children were very good at collecting different types of sticks and wood that are good to start fires with. At the end of the session the children watched how to extinguish the fire safely.

- Making a climbing frame

- Making their own fire circles

- Team games

🐦 Birds 🐦‍⬛

 

Today in Forest School we looked closely at birds. The children sat very still and quiet to see what birds they could spot. 

We read the story "The Girl with the Bird's Nest Hair" and explored all the birds in the book. During child-led play some children made bird's nest and even found a worm for a bird to eat.

 

Other activities included:

- Making mud cupcakes

- Digging up a big rock

- Helping each other on the swing

- Imaginative role play
