Forest School

👃👁 Using our senses🤚👂

This week in Forest School the children tended to the allotment area. They smelt the fresh mint and decided to try some, most children said it didn't taste as nice as their toothpaste!

The children also used lots of descriptive words when using the shape cards. They used their sense of touch and sight to describe what the had found in their shape.

"That's not my square, it's too rough"

Children also enjoyed collecting snails, they desribed the size, colour and patterns on the shells.

And of course we had lots of kings, queens and knights role play!

🔍Little Explorers 🔎

This week was all about exploring. The children used our lovely new magnifying glasses and bug viewers to explore all of the nature in Forest School. The children are great at hunting for bugs!

The Little Conkers also learnt how to use the hand drill. They used it to make holes in medals, necklaces and a log to make a bug hotel.

Also...

Lots of wishes were made with dandelion clocks.

Castles were built and protected from invaders!

👫Teamwork 👫

This week the children intiated lots of team games, they played musical statues and created their own 'Island' game where they had to hop from one stump to another without falling off. Children showed great resilience by not getting upset when they were out of the game.

The children also showed great skill and independence when making their own snack.

Other activities included:

- Making more castles!

- Creating clay characters

- Playing tic-tac-toe with stones and sticks.

🌻 Sunny Days 🫛

The sun was shining in Forest School today and imaginations were in full swing. Everybody was so busy!

Today children:

- Planted Sunflowers and Peas.

- Made castles.

- Worked as a team to make mud 'concrete'.

- Set up a cafe serving mud cakes and salad.

- Pretended to be a caterpillar in the hammock chrysalis and emerged as a butterfly.

- Showed care and compassion helping others to get their boots on after being in the hammock.

- Looked closely at the class butterflies and released the final two.

- Made Hapa-zome prints using leaves and flowers to dye material.

What an amazing session Little Conkers!

19.04.24

The children were excited to be back in Forest School today. There have been some exciting changes!  This week children enjoyed using the new games area to play tic-tac-toe and snakes and ladders. They also got involved in maintaining our Forest School environment by helping to lay a bark path.

As part of their 'minibeast' topic children have been looking after caterpillars, one of them is now a butterfly so we released it outside.
