iVengers Mission One (2023-2024): Building and introducing our team.

Our Autumn Term mission is to train up new ivengers from Year 5, William and Poppy, to fill the boots of the children who moved on to high school in September. Our ivengers have been and will continue to undertake a number of tasks to promote and monitor online safety in school and at home.

1.   Deliver an I-Vengers assembly to the whole school to remind the children of the importance of staying safe online and that internet safety is EVERYONE's job.

2. The I-Vengers Christmas message - the '12 Safety Tips Of Christmas' - making sure we stay safe in school and at home, especially over the Christmas Holiday.

I-Vengers Pupil Survey link 2022-23.

Please can all children from Year 1-6 complete the survey by the end of Summer Term 2.

Thanks,

Mr Tupman

Computing at Buxworth Primary School

At Buxworth Primary School we want children to reach their full potential in physical, intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, social and spiritual growth. Therefore computing is taught across all phases using both plugged and unplugged resources to ensure that the children understand that computing is not just sitting in front of a computer, but also links to many parts of our every day lives. The children are taught a combination of computer science, information technology and digital literacy across the school year to enhance their computing skills. The children are also taught about online safety throughout their computing lessons and across the wider curriculum and through Project25.

Curriculum Threads:

  • Internet safety.

  • Navigating the World Wide Web.

  • Computers in education (supporting learning and cross-curricular uses)

  • Coding.

  • Creating, organising and storing information.

  • Presenting and communicating information.

  • Computing uses beyond school.

  • Digital citizenship.

iVengers Assemble!

After successfully trialing the fantastic, student-led iVengers last year, we are once againtaking part in this exciting project. We have selected our Year 6 I-Vengers - Harry and Charlie - and will be adding to our team with some children from Year 5 this term. Throughout the year, they will be carrying out a number of exciting tasks and secret missions to help children, parents, staff and governors to gain a better understanding about how to stay safe online.

Have a look at some of last year's iVenger projects to get an idea of what is to come...

Healthy Selfies

For their final I-Vengers task of the year, our upper key stage two children have been investigating posting selfie photographs online and thinking about what is appropriate and inappropriate. This triggered some really good discussion in both classes, with all of the children showing a really mature attitude to the subject. They finished by making their own healthy selfie displays. Well done guys!

Mission 3: A questionnaire thank you!

We have now completed our I-Venger pupil and parent online safety surveys and submitted the data for analysis. Thank you to everyone who took part! Our I-Vengers - Maisey, Joe, Summer and George - are now awaiting the return of the analysed data which they will use to plan and priorities our next steps.

Mission 2 - Top Tips at Christmas

We completed this mission just before Christmas.  We are aware that lots of children in school will be lucky enough to get some fantastic tech for Christmas.  While this is fantastic news, we also know that new tech potentially poses new risks.  This inspired our second task.

Our second mission was to ask children in every class to come up with their three top tips for staying safe online.  Our 12 top tips have been shared on with the whole school, but we have shared them here too.

Mission 1 - Assembly

Our very first mission was to produce an assembly to introduce ourselves, our roles and our next task to the rest of the school.  The assembly went well and now everyone knows what our role is all about.

So, introducing our I-Vengers… Maisey, Joe, Summer and George!
