It's Wednesday!


Here are the activities we would like you to complete today. You can choose what order you do the activities in, but we suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail a copy to us each day.


Start your day with Chapter 3 of Mindfulness for Children...


1) English

Today you have 3 new chapters to listen to:

Chapter 6 – Brown Paint, read by Sam

Chapter 7 – Grandma Gets the Medicine, read by Mrs Brammer

Chapter 8 – The Brown Hen, read by Mrs Crombleholme

You can complete today’s activity after Chapter 7 if you wish.


Today’s work is all about similes. Similes compare 2 things using ‘like’ or ‘as’:

‘he was as brave as a lion’,

‘she was as white as a ghost’,

‘he slept like a log’.


In Chapter 7 Roald Dahl uses a simile when describing what happened to Grandma when she had the medicine to help you imagine what it was like. Read the ‘Extract from Grandma gets the Medicine’ below and see if you can spot the simile. If you can, underline it in the text.


Then have a go at the ‘Sassy Similes’ sheet by coming up with your own similes to describe Grandma. You could use some of these examples to get you started:

She was as small as…

She was mean like…


2) Maths - Multiplication and division

Lesson 8 – Recalling multiplication and division facts (


Start by taking the quiz to see if you are ready to move on from learning about inverse operations.

This lesson will apply known multiplication facts to a wider range of questions.


Below, you will find the worksheet you need for Miss Brinkworth’s lesson. When you have completed the lesson, use your Bug Club login to play multiplication and division games.


3) Spelling

It’s test day! Mrs Downings will test you on your spellings during the morning Zoom lesson.

Listen carefully to the group you are in so you know which words you need to write down. After the lesson, you can ask an adult to mark them and tell us your scores during the afternoon Zoom lesson. Below, you will find the new rule for your new spellings.


4) French 

In French today we will be revising our colours. For the lesson you will need some colouring pencils, felt tips or paint and the activity from the resource section called ‘French Colours’. Begin by watching the song in the link below. It will introduce you to the colours and pronounce them correctly for you. After that, complete the ‘French Colours’ activity.


5) Forest School

Miss Quick has set you a forest school challenge all to do with sculptures. Open up the ‘Forest school’ activity to find the instructions – enjoy!
