Thursday 7th January

Good Morning!

Happy Thursday Sycamore class!

Here are the activities I would like you to complete today – Thursday 7th January.

You can choose what order you do the activities in, but we suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail photos of your work to me each day if you want.

1) English

Today I'd like you to start your dinosaur work by reading the Daily News article all about a fossil of the smallest ever dinosaur being found! Read it carefully, thinking about the information. Then tell a grown up what the article was about.

When you have finished, have a go at the questions. The answers are attached for you or a grown up to check your work.

Then have another look at the Jurassic Age picture from yesterday in the resources below. Have a go at the Jurassic Age Sentence Challenge sheet. You can either print it off to fill in or write your answers on a separate sheet. All the instructions are on the sheet itself.

2) Maths

Times tables

  1. Log on to TT Rock Stars and spend 5-10 minutes on your tables. They are set for all tables up to 12x12 as you should know these off by heart by the end of Y4.
  2. Open up the ‘Times tables’ resource below and answer the questions – we will check the answers in the afternoon.
  3. Log on and open up the this link Find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more or less - Year 4 - P5 - Maths - Catch Up Lessons - Home Learning with BBC Bitesize - BBC Bitesize to find a BBC Bitesize maths lesson on finding 10, 100 and 1000 more or less. Watch the video and complete the online activities.
  4. Open the ’10, 100, 1000 more or less’ activity sheet in the resources section below. Complete the two tables.

3) Spelling

Use the activities below to practise your spellings.

4) Topic

Dino day 2 – I’m still excited!

Today, I’d like you to watch the Nat Geo Kids video (link in the resources below) about the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. Think about the information the video gives, maybe you could pause it when you hear something interesting and write the fabulous facts down on a piece of paper.

After you’ve watched the video, I’d like you to do one of the following:

  • Write an informative paragraph about the T-Rex, including a labelled picture.
  • Write a short script for a TV program and then pretend that you are a naturalist like Sir David Attenborough and make a mini film about the T-Rex. If you do this, ask an adult to email it to me so that I can watch and maybe even share it with the class.

5) Yoga Quest

Join me on an exciting Yoga quest every Tuesday and Thursday. Feel the benefit of Yoga as we take an adventure through 5 wonderful lands and explore all the different animals and elements of the lands. For the first couple of weeks, we will travel through Shark’s Bay. We will begin with Norris the baby seahorse. Follow the Yoga moves on the video and once you complete the activity, you can tick it off on your map. The link above explains the quest in more detail whilst the link below sets you off on your first adventure. Don’t forget to download the Shark’s Bay map.
