Thursday 14th

Thursday 14th January

Good morning Sycamore class.

Here are the activities I would like you to complete today – Thursday 14th January.

You can choose what order you do the activities in, but we suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail photos of your work to me each day if you want.

1) English

Let’s start today by re-reading How to wash you elephant. I have added it to today’s resources if you need another copy. See if you can read with more expression today, now that the text is more familiar. If an adult read it to you last time, see if you can read some of it yourself today.

When you have finished I would like you to spot some features of instructions. You can highlight them on the sheet or just point to them on the screen. Try to find these things:

  • heading
  • sub-heading
  • introduction
  • a list of what you will need
  • numbers to show each step
  • conclusion

Next you will be learning some interesting words that you could use when describing your monster pizza. Listen carefully to what the words mean - I would love to see some of these words in your instructions next week. Click on the link entitled Monster Pizza Instructions 4 to start your lesson.

2) Maths

  1. Log on to TT Rock Stars and spend 5-10 minutes on your tables. They are set for all tables up to 12x12 as you should know these off by heart by the end of Y4.
  2. Open up the times tables activity from the resource section below. Answer the questions and then ask an adult to mark them for you. I’ll collect your scored this afternoon.
  3. Today we will be problem solving using addition and subtraction. In the resource section below, you’ll find some of the Power maths challenge cards. Open each one and work through the activities on them. On each Card you will see some letters: T= a warm up, something you’ve done before. S= An age appropriate activity. D= A ‘Greater Depth’ challenge. Don’t worry if you struggle with them, either ask an adult to help you or skip it.

3) Spellings

Have a go at the spelling activity below to practise your spellings.

4) Topic

Dinosaur Top Trump Cards will be our topic activity for today. Click the link https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/prehistoric-animals/ to explore the Dinosaur section on the Nat Geo Kids website. On there you will find fact files and videos on lots of different dinosaurs. Your challenge today will be to create a set of Top Trump cards based on dinosaurs. In the resource section you will find the ‘Top Trump Cards’ template for you to fill in with the height, weight, length, age of the dino. You can decide on its intelligence (give it a score out of 100). The template only has four cards on it so you might want to print (or draw) it a few times.

5) Yoga Quest

Next on our journey through Shark's Bay, we will meet Squish the Fish. I would love to see some pictures of you on your yoga quest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhYtcadR9nw
