What have we been doing in class?

Extreme Earth - Poetry

In our English lessons, we have started to explore the story 'Escape from Pompeii'. We have used this story to inspire us to write and perform a group poem. Leading up to the performances, we studied a variety of 'earthquake' poems to look for effective features of poetry, we used thesauruses to search for synonyms of 'shake' and we used drama to experience what it would have been like for the people of Pompeii. We are very proud of how they worked collaboratively to write their fantastic poems. Have a read of our poems below then click on this link to see us perform them in our groups. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV2hEMa7Izots8zAEiTiC59ZUjgXnUW-T

Topic Homework

We had a lovely morning sharing our topic homework. The children (and parents!) have worked so hard over half term and have been very creative! Well done everyone!

Rainforests

We are nearly at the end of the first half-term but we have already learnt so much about rainforests. We know what a rainforest is and why they are called this. We've been able to identify which continents have rainforests and where they are in relation to the Equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. We've learnt to name and describe the four layers of vegetation and worked collaboratively to make a class collage to represent the layers of the rainforest.

Stage 1: Preparing the background

Stage 2: Layering different materials to create a 3D effect

Stage 3: Each layer is complete

Stage 4 & 5: Put all the layers together and add some rainforest animals

Brass Performance

We are so proud of our fabulous Brass Performance - the children were all amazing! Well done Sycamore Class!
