Welcome to Summer  Term 1.  Our Topic this term is  Dinosaurs. We will be learning about the amazing world of the past through dinosaurs. We will learn about the different periods of dinosaurs and then specific dinosaurs within them.

In English we will continue practicing to write sentences using our developing phonetic skills. We will be focussing on how to compose and  write sentences including how to ensure it makes sense and can be read by others. We will be encouraging capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and neat handwriting. We will be reading and using lots of fiction, non-fiction  and poetry books.

We will use our daily phonics lessons to help us to read and write. Correct letter formation will continue to be a key focus. Phonics will focus on phase 3 and 4  phonics which will practice digraphs, trigraphs,  clusters in blends and compound words.   

In Maths, the  children  will be continuing their understanding of numbers  by learning to master numbers to 10 and start to gain an in depth understanding of those to 15.

Other Business

Forest School will continue to be on a Friday afternoon this term. Please send clothes suitable for the day. Even when the weather is warm long sleeved tops and trousers or leggings are encouraged to avoid the risk of nettle stings and cuts.  

Please apply suncream to your child before they come to school whenever the weather requires it.

P.E will continue to be on a Thursday afternoon.  

PLEASE TRY AND LISTEN TO YOUR CHILD READ AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. Phonic flash cards  and  High Frequency word sheets will be sent home to learn when necessary.  Remember to check out Tapestry www.eylj.org to see what your child has been doing.
