Summer Term 2
Welcome to Summer Term 2.
The Wonderful World of Books
We will be learning all about our favourite stories and authors and what we like about them. We will be particularly focussing on stories by Julia Donaldson using Superworm, The Smartest Giant in Town, The Gruffalo, The Scarecrow’s Wedding, Room on the Broom and The Smeds and The Smoos to shape our learning and activities. We will do lots of role playing the stories and being the characters to help us learn the story language, how to order a story and retell it. We will spend time talking about our favourite bits and characters. We will be engaging in lots of creative activities looking at the styles of the illustrators used and we will be trying to paint and draw replicating these styles. We will be furthering our knowledge and understanding of the world looking at farms, animal lifecycles, and farm crops. We will be using scientific processes to look how materials change when we mix them together by making potions, flower perfumes and making Gruffalo Crumble. We will also be learning how our environment is different to that in a city.
In weeks 4 and 5 we will use Early Years Enterprise skills to plan, organise and prepare our own scarecrow’s wedding on Thursday 3rd of July. We will be making a wedding venue, decorations, flowers, a wedding cake and a picnic to enjoy at the party afterwards!!! Your child can wear a party outfit if they would like. If you have any straw or clothes we could borrow to make scarecrows please could you let Ms Crombleholme know and bring them in week commencing 23rd July. Not before please due to lack of storage space. Thank you.
We will use our daily phonics lessons to help us to improve our reading and writing. Correct letter formation will continue to be a key focus. PLEASE HELP US TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD MAKES AS MUCH PROGRESS AS POSSIBLE BY READING WITH HIM OR HER AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. Reading books will be sent home once a week, as before. They will be changed on a Monday as usual. Forest School will be on a FRIDAY afternoon when the staffing allows. Please continue to send your child in in their Forest School clothes so they are always ready when the opportunity arises. P.E will be continue to be on a Monday afternoon.
Remember to check out Tapestry www.eylj.org to see what your child has been doing and the class webpage on the school website. I will endeavour to upload as many photos as I can. Any questions, please email the office or catch me after school.
Kind regards Miss Crombleholme
