Monday

Welcome back Hawthorn Class!

Here are the activities we would like you to complete today. You can choose what order you do the activities in, but we suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail a copy to us each day.

1) English

I LOVE daffodils! When I see them in the supermarkets I know that Spring is coming and I love having some to brighten up my kitchen! Daffodils are a symbol of hope, new beginnings and spring and BBC Radio Derby are asking people to put a picture of daffodils in their windows as a sign of positivity during lockdown. Start by creating your daffodil picture by painting, colouring or collaging the daffodil print in the Resources section or draw your own to put in your window at home. If you’re feeling creative you could even make your own daffodil model using paper cake cases or egg boxes with lollipop sticks, straws or cardboard stems.

Then I’d like you to write a paragraph about what you are hoping for or looking forward to when lockdown ends. We’ve talked about this already on Zoom so think about the ideas we’ve shared.

  • Who would you like to see?
  • Where would you like to go?
  • What will you do there?

You might have a few different ideas – I’d love to hear them. You could also add a message of positivity to anyone who might be finding lockdown hard: We can do it! Keep Smiling!

Send these to me so we can share them in school when we’re back.

2) Maths - Multiplication and division

Lesson 1 – Recalling the 3X table

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/recalling-the-3-times-table-c8tp4d

In this lesson Miss Brinkworth is going to recall the 3X tables with you.

Even if you already know your 3X tables, it’s very important to join in with the lesson because you will be introduced to new vocabulary such as ‘multiple’ and ‘product’ and you will learn how to solve problems using your 3X tables.

In the resources below, you will find the worksheet to complete whilst you are listening to Miss Brinkworth and a challenge worksheet to complete after the lesson.

3) Spellings

It's Monday so let's practise our handwriting and our spellings at the same time.

4) Topic – Art

In Art this afternoon I would like you to look at still life. When we’re back in the classroom, we will be starting an art project all about Van Gough’s Sunflowers so this will be a good start to it. Start by gathering up some items to draw. Fruit, vegetables, flowers or plants are the best to choose but if you don’t have any of those in the house, you could collect items such as teddies and toys. Once you have got a collection of items, arrange them in a place where you can see them. (I chose a broccoli, a leek, a tin of soup and some grapes) Once you are ready with a pencil and some paper, sketch what you can see in front of you. Think about detail and about the shading lessons you had a few weeks ago. You should only use your pencil for this lesson, no colours. You can see an example of still life pictures in the resources section (Still Life examples).

5) Yoga Quest

(If you cannot fit this in before the zoom lesson, you can complete it after the lesson.)

Let's continue our adventure through the Rumbly Jungle. This lesson, you will meet Dodgson the Dodo.
