Monday 1st

Monday 1st March

Good morning Sycamore class.

Here are the activities I would like you to complete today.

I suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail photos of your work to me each day if you want.

1) English

This week lots of your English work will be all about George’s Marvellous Medicine as it is World Book Week! The teachers at school have all recorded themselves reading each chapter for you to watch and listen to. You can find them all in a folder when you click on the Home Learning Star for Week 8 (01.03.21).

Today I’d like you to start by watching Chapter 1 – Grandma read by Mrs Turega. As you are listening to the story, think about what the 2 characters are like. On the ‘Character sheet’ in the resources section below, draw a picture of Grandma on one side and George on the other. Use what you know from the text but also use your imagination about what you think they might look like based on what you know about them. Can you think of 5 adjectives (describing words) to describe each one? Write them around your picture. Then write one sentence about each of the characters to tell me what they are like.

When you have finished, watch Chapter 2 – The Marvellous Plan read by Mr Bertram. (You can watch this later today if you prefer but you’ll need to watch it before tomorrow morning.)

2) Maths

1. Spend 10-15 minutes on your Times Table Rock Star account. I’ve set your tables for you but let me know if you need to change it.

2. Open up the Power up activity and complete the challenges.

3. This week we will all be working on time. Time is such a tricky concept and it can take a while for you to understand it. We’ll start with an Oak academy video (link below)  https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/reading-analogue-and-digital-12-hour-clocks-6xjk2d Follow the video to learn about reading digital and analogue clocks.

3) Spellings

It's Monday so let's practise our handwriting and our spellings at the same time.

4) Topic – Art

When we’re back in the classroom together, we are going to be looking at Vincent Van Gough, especially his painting ‘Sunflowers’. To get you started, I’d like you to look at the painting in the resource section (Sunflowers). Once you have looked at it I’d like you to create your own sunflower. You can choose to paint one, sketch one, craft one, build one out of lego… your choice! Don’t forget to send me some pictures of your creations.

5) Yoga Quest

(If you cannot fit this in before the zoom lesson, you can complete it after the lesson)

Let's embark on our final quest through the Rumbly Jungle. Here we meet Frank the Frog. Frank The Frog | A Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure! - YouTube

6) PE – Crazy dancing!

We will be doing crazy dancing on zoom later so get practicing those moves!
