Friday 22nd

Friday 22th January

Good morning Sycamore class.

Here are the activities I would like you to complete today.

Do the activities in any order, but I suggest trying to do the English and Maths in the morning. You can print the work if you want to or you can read from the screen and answer on paper. Please save anything you do to bring into school once we are back so we can have a look at it. You can also ask your grown-ups to e-mail photos of your work to me each day if you want.

1) English

Last week Isla and I created symmetrical butterfly pictures with paints. I then wrote instructions so that someone else could follow them if they wanted to have a go at the same thing. Click on Butterfly Picture Instructions below to see Isla’s picture and our instructions. Read them aloud to remind yourself of the key features.

Today I’d like you to do something similar. Start by being creative – here are some ideas of things you could do:

  • potato printing
  • finger paint pictures
  • playdough model of an animal
  • build a lego vehicle or building
  • draw a picture of your favourite toy, colour it in and add labels
  • make a birthday card for someone in your family
  • bake a cake or some cookies

When you have finished I’d like you to write instructions to tell someone else how to do the same thing. We have had lots of practise so try to remember all that you have learnt.

2) Maths

  1. Log on to TT Rock Stars and spend 5-10 minutes on your tables. They are set for all tables up to 12x12 as you should know these off by heart by the end of Y4.
  2. Open up the ‘Times tables’ resource below and answer the questions. Ask an adult to mark them and I will collect the answers this afternoon.
  3. Today we have another mixed up maths lesson. Open the ‘Maths Mat’ activity in the resource section below and answer as many as you can. Some of the parts you might not have learnt in school yet so if you can, ask an adult to help you.
  4. Finally, click this link to access a White Rose online lesson. You need to scroll down until you find the video called ‘Estimate answers. Like the Oak academy lessons, you need to pause the video in places to answer the questions. Follow the instructions and complete the online learning, recording your answers as you go.

3) Spellings

Have a go at the spelling activity below to practise your spellings.

4) Topic

Today we are going to look at robots in the real world – what are they used for and how can they help us. Click this link to watch the introduction of ‘Spy in the Wild’ from the BBC iplayer.  If you want to watch the whole episode you can, there are 4 currently available on BBC iplayer. From the video you can see how robots are helping scientists understand about the natural world.

  1. After watching the video introduction, choose one of the animals that you have seen and create a poster about it. You can use books, videos or the internet to help you (Natgeo kids is a great website for animals)
  2. Think about adding the following:
  • A big bold title
  • An introduction
  • Text boxes to make the information more accessible
  • Where does your animal live?
  • What does it eat?
  • What does it look like?
  • Fabulous facts

5) PE

Today is our final session pf PE for the week. By now you have probably guessed what I’m going to ask you to do. Choose an activity of your choice to get your heart rate up – PE with Joe, Dancing with Oti, bike riding, running laps of the garden, jogging up and down the stairs, playing football with someone in your house – anything!
