The children had a fantastic week learning lots of new sounds in Phonics and using their knowledge to read and write words. Their reading using books with words is phenomenal, as is the speed at which they have taken to writing. They are now labelling pictures with the beginning and end sounds and sometimes even the middle ones too!!! They are practising by noticing the sounds all over the classroom, in Phonics lessons and using games and resources around the room.
In Maths they have been learning about 3D shapes; discovering their properties and names by expolring what they do. This week they were testing out which shapes roll and which slide. Then they were working out why. What super clever brains they have.
In topic we were deepening our understanding of what Remembrance Day is and what it signifies. They really enjoyed making the different coloured poppies and telling us what each colour poppy was for. They were fascinated by the animals that helped in the war efforts so we set up a vets in hte role play area. This was a great hit and everyone enjoyed playing in it. The acted out being the receptionis, the vets, clients with pets and vetinary nurses. Their language, communication and personal and socila skills were brilliant.
Well done Little Conkers on having such a fantastic week.
