Summer Term 1 2025
Welcome to Summer Term 1. Our Topic this term is Transport and Journeys. We will be learning about many different forms of transport and the journeys they can take us on. We will look at journeys by foot, car, rail, water and air. In English we will be learning to write sentences using our developing phonics skills. We will be reading and using lots of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books, including Percy’s Bumpy Ride, My Journey Around the World, Mr Grumpy’s Motorcar, Amazing Aeroplanes, Terrific Trains and more.
We will use our daily phonics lessons to help us to read and write. Correct letter formation will continue to be a key focus.
In Maths, the children will be deepening their understanding of numbers to 10 and extending that to numbers to 20. We will be focusing on numberbonds, counting, ordering, addition and subtraction. We will also look at measures- length, mass, capacity and time. We will be using Maths in real life problems and situations to consolidate and apply our understanding.
In our topic we will be learning about different modes of transport, the vehicles they include and the destinations or journeys they take us on. We will journey near and far and learn about different places in our country and world.
Other Business
Forest School will continue to be on a Friday afternoon this term. Please ensure your child has a long sleeved top and covered legs even in the hot weather to avoid stings. Please ensure they have suncream on when needed.
PE is changing to a Monday.
We will be going on a journey to Stockport using the bus and train on Thursday 22nd May in the morning. We will be looking at our local environment on the journeys; around the bus and train stations and then on the walk back from the station. If you can help please let us know.
If you go on any journeys over the Easter holidays, please bring in photos or anything you collect from the experience when you come back to school.
PLEASE TRY AND LISTEN TO YOUR CHILD READ AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. PHONICS SOUND CARDS WILL BE SENT HOME. We will also begin to send Key words on Reading Diaries for you to practise reading with your child.
